Are you Employing Illegal Aliens

Many employers are presented with a predicament when they receive information from the Internal Revenue Service that their employees’ Social Security Numbers are inaccurate. Often, this means that an employer is employing an illegal alien who has provided false verification documents with the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. It is not unusual these days to have applicants appear with false picture identification. Your picture published on the front page of the newspaper after agents raid your facility can be professionally embarrassing and costly.

But now, the government is expanding a not too widely known program called the Basic Employment Verification Pilot. This program involves the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security. It permits selected employers, who enter into a written agreement with these agencies, to have access to SSA and Homeland Security databases to verify Social Security Numbers and acceptability for working in our country.
